History of ERPN
ERPN USA is one of the longest running patriotic ham radio nets in the United States. It was started in 1997 by East Coast stations and for many years checked in operators from primarily the eastern United States. One of the early founders was KF8ED (Jim) in West Virginia. He was joined in 2002 by KI8Q (Lee) in Alabama. These two stations, serving as Net Control Station (NCS) six nights a week, were primarily responsible for the continuity and success of ERPN for many years.
In Fall 2015, the Net became what is now ERPN USA to reflect the growing number of stations joining the net from states farther west . While the western “edge” of the net on most nights is somewhere around central Nebraska, stations as far away as Colorado and New Mexico occasionally check in depending upon propagation.
