How ERPN Works
ERPN is a directed net which means that our Net Control Station (NCS) asks for check-ins, records them in order, and generally directs activities at the start of the net.
After everyone has checked in and given a situation report, the net goes into Open Forum which means stations are free to talk to anyone without going through net control.
We take check-ins by call districts. Your call district is indicated by the number in your call sign. When NCS calls for check-ins from say districts 1,2, or 3 - if you have a 1,2, or 3 in your call sign that’s when you should check in. The rest of the call districts follow in order. When you check in, please give your Call Sign, Name, and QTH along with a brief situation report. Example: “This is KD0HOL, Jerry, in Missouri, Situation 1 here – all is well.” |
Situation reports run from 1 to 8 with 1 meaning that things are OK in your local area and 8 meaning that things are really bad. When you give a situation report, consider the following for your area:
Because ERPN stations check in from many states, unusual activities occurring in one area may be observed in other areas. This unique perspective provides everyone with a “bigger picture”.
- Civil Unrest
- Law Enforcement Activity
- Extreme Weather Situations
- State Legislative Activity
- Military Operations
- Unusual Events of Interest to Others
- Unexplained Activity
